Winter and the festive season is here again, my favourite time of the year! In this post I’m going to be sharing all the things I want to do this winter and things that should be on everyone’s winter bucket list. Especially when it’s cold, and hopefully snowy, it is great to make the most of this wonderful time of year and fill it with fun and festive things with friends and family.
This is always something I look forward to all year; a trip to Edinburgh’s Winter Wonderland. I have written another post about Edinburgh and the famous markets it has at Christmas, check it out here. Now, you don’t need to come to Edinburgh necessarily, there are numerous other winter wonderland’s and similar Christmas markets. It is such a great way to get into the festive spirit and be caught up in the infectiously cheery atmosphere. You can’t really beat going ice skating and then wandering around the market stalls, soaking up all the delicious smells and having a go at the various fairground style games. It truly is something not to be missed at Christmas!
It can be so much fun going around the shops, with all the festive songs playing and lights flashing looking for the perfect gifts for your loved ones. But Christmas shopping doesn’t just have to mean shopping for presents, but everything else that’s fun and festive. One of my favourite days every year is the day we go to get out Christmas tree, that is when I feel like Christmas really has begun. It’s so much fun going to a garden centre or tree farm, picking your perfect tree and bringing it home to decorate. Also, garden centres are great places to find amazing decorations for the tree, they truly embrace Christmas spirit and it’s hard not to feel festive when going in.
Decorating the tree is also just as fun. Get the decorations and lights out, get the Christmas playlist on and get going. There’s really nothing like this to get you in the festive mood.
Baking and Making
There are so many yummy wintry treats you can make, even if you’re not great at baking. Mince pies, festive cupcakes or cookies, Christmas cake, Yule Log the list could go on. Baking is a great way of having fun with friends and family and hopefully ending up with something delicious to eat. This is another great way of getting into the festive spirit, and also a great way to spend your time when the weather outside may not be so great.
Another creative thing to do this winter, is some fun, Christmas themed diy’s. There are so many crafts and decorations you can make to put up around house to make it feel cosy and look festive. Pintrest is a great place to look for inspiration for both baking recipes and diy craft ideas.
A fantastic way to warm your house up, get it smelling nice and to have something tasty and festive is to make a big pot of mulled wine. A really warming, delicious drink, this is a great way to feel festive. It’s really quick and easy to make and you can re-heat it whenever you want some more. A great festive treat that is a must-have in winter!
A Christmas Movie Marathon
This is a wonderful way to spend a cold, December day with friends or family. Put on your favourite Christmas onesie or pj’s, bring all the cosy cushions and blankets, prepare plenty of yummy snacks and get ready to enjoy all your festive favourites. Invite friends round and get them to bring more delicious snacks to join in the festivity. This makes for a really nice day/night and the perfect excuse to indulge. It is also another really brilliant way of feeling festive and cosy.
These are just some of the thing I hope to do during this magical time of year and thing I really love doing. Hopefully this has given you some inspiration of fun-filled, festive activities to do over the course of winter.
