When you’re hitting the open road and setting out on an epic road trip, there is one passenger that you definitely don’t want to forget, and that would be your smartphone. Your phone can save you from potential emergencies or disasters, or it can just enhance your road trip experience. Either way, there are several road trip apps that can help you out a ton while you’re on the road.
1. Spotify/Apple Music
No road trip is complete without some sweet music! Enter Spotify, or Apple Music, whichever you prefer.
No longer do you have to listen to the radio and keep changing the station when you go out of range. These apps allow you to listen to music for the entirety of the journey.
Not only that, but you can pick every song! All you need is an AUX cord.
If you are struggling to come up with a fire road trip playlist, check out this post for some inspiration and song ideas.
Next up is Yelp.
Yelp is a really helpful app, and it’s free to use!
It’s great if you’re needing to find a place to stop, or you’re wanting to get some food or something like that.
If you don’t want to listen to music for the whole journey, audible is a great app to get.
Listening to books can keep everyone in the car entertained and it can also keep the driver awake if they’ve been driving for a while!
4. Google Maps
Now, this one’s quite obvious.
If you’re going on a road trip – especially if you’re going to places you’ve never been before – you’re not going to want to get completely lost!
That’s where Google Maps comes in. As long as you’re connected to wifi or have mobile data, you will be able to have access to directions to where you’re heading to.
This one only applies to those who are embarking on a road trip in an electric car.
Plugshare helps you find places nearby where you can charge your car. This is pretty essential given that charging stations are still not that common yet.
This app is a great help when it comes to planning your trip.
It helps you find places that you can stop along the way and it will also give you a rough estimate of how expensive the fuel costs are going to be.
I think we can all agree that it’s quite a stressful experience being in a strange city for the first time, especially if you’re having to find a parking space.
This app can help ease that stress as it can help you locate a parking space.
Once you’ve parked – to make sure you can find your car again – you should take a picture of where you parked, or just pin your location onto Google Maps. Then you’ll be able to find your way back, no problem!
Sometimes, when you’re on a big road trip, plans are going to change and you have to find new accommodation at the last minute.
HotelTonight finds cheap, discounted deals on hotel rooms near you.
Even if you think you have your trip well planned out, it wouldn’t hurt to get this app, just in case!
9. Flush Toilet Finder
Finishing with a splash (haha).
There aren’t many feelings worse than being desperate for the toilet and not knowing where the nearest stop is.
This toilet finder will find all the closest toilets to you and this app also works offline! It will also tell you things like if you have to pay or anything like that.
Hopefully, you guys can put some of these to use in the future! They can help us to focus more on the actual road trip itself, which is the most important thing!
